In this session, attendees will experience the many ways children's literature can be incorporated into the elementary general music classroom. Familiar books are used as jumping off points for everything from lesson planning to program planning. Lesson ideas incorporate free exploration, naming and practicing of musical elements, and creative extensions. Special attention will be given to scaffolding from concept knowledge into framework for improvisation and composition across different mediums, with emphasis on movement and barred instruments.
