About Anne

Music Maker, teacher educator, curriculum designer, lifelong learner, curious Collaborator

Let’s make music together.

I help music educators create active, joyful experiences that build confidence. For teachers and students.

Three beliefs that shape my work

The ideas that guide
my teaching and work.

These beliefs are the foundation of everything I do. From the elementary music classroom to university teaching, workshops, and every conversation in between.

Purposeful. Sequential. Joyful.

Music Teachers
are Musicians

Music isn’t just something we teach, it’s something we live. As educators, we’re called to share music with the world, and we do that best by creating meaningful musical experiences along side our students.

Each and Every Child
is Musical

Each and every child has the capacity to make, understand, and love music. My role is to help each student discover their musical voice through curiosity, creativity, and embodied active music making.

Good Teaching
is Intentional

Great music teaching doesn’t happen by accident. It begins with purpose, grows through thoughtful sequencing, and is sustained by joy. Every child. Every lesson. Every day.

My work today

Many roles. One Mission.

I’ve never believed music education fits neatly into a box. Some days you’ll find me teaching first graders. Other days I’m mentoring future educators, leading a workshop, or recording a podcast with a colleague. Different settings. The same goal.

Teacher Education

Preparing confident music educators who teach with purpose, joy, and curiosity.

Classroom Music

Creating joyful, active music-making experiences where students develop their independent musicianship and create in community.

Professional Learning

Designing learning experiences that connect research with practical classroom teaching.

Meaningful Conversations

Exploring ideas that inspire thoughtful dialogue about music education through writing, podcasting, and collaboration.

You became a music teacher because

you love to make music

Questions that Keep Me Curious

For as long as I can remember, music has been an integral part of my life. Singing, playing, and creating within my own community has always been an important part of who I am. As I grew into my career, I not only became interested in making music myself, but also how people learn to make music.

That curiousity first led me to early childhood and elementary classrooms, where I discovered the joy, and complexity, of helping children become confident collaborators and independent musicians. From there, my interests grew into teaching other practicing and preservice teachers, designing curriculum, creating professional learning opportunities on my own and with other organizations, and developing my own research questions.

Although my work has taken many different forms, the questions have remained remarkably consistent:

  • How do we creating meaningful musical experiences?
  • How do we prepare confident and competent music educators?
  • How do we bridge research and classroom practice in ways that truly service teachers and students?

These questions continue to shape everything I do.

Reflections from Colleagues

Whether in classrooms, conference halls, university courses, workshops, or through a pair of headphones, I’m so grateful for the people I’ve met along the way. These connections have shaped me into the music maker and teacher educator that I am today.

Let's Connect.

Whether you’re looking for a workshop presenter, guest speaker, curriculum collaborator, or simply want to continue the conversation, I’d love to hear from you.
